MURDER accused Lawak Lorenzo Henzel, 23, will remain in custody after appearing in the Petrusville District Court for allegedly stabbing his three-year-old stepson to death.
National Prosecuting Authority regional spokesperson Mojalefa Senokoatsane said on Wednesday that Henzel indicated that he intended to apply for bail at his next court appearance on October 11.
He said the alleged incident took place on July 25 after Henzel had an argument with the child’s mother.
“The child’s mother was his ex-girlfriend. Henzel refused her entry into the house when she went to his house to collect her clothes. He also refused to hand over the toddler to her.”
Senokoatsane added that the mother walked away and later returned to the house, accompanied by the police.
“Upon her arrival, the body of the three-year-old boy was discovered with multiple stab wounds. The accused was found hiding under the bed and was arrested and charged with murder.”
He said that Henzel would remain in custody until his next court appearance.
“The prosecution will oppose the bail application, given the seriousness of the charges against the accused. The investigations led by the police are continuing in this matter.”
