NC child rapist gets life in jail

A 50-YEAR-old man, Keoagile Mokone, known as Takaki, from Pepsi Village outside Kuruman was sentenced to life imprisonment on Friday for the rape of a four-year-old child.

Northern Cape police spokesperson Brigadier Mohale Ramatseba said the incident occurred in May 2014 when Mokone took the child to an RDP house and raped her in the presence of the child’s friend.

“It is reported that in May 2014, the four-year-old was playing with her two friends who are the same age. The complainant apparently asked the accused for money. The accused took the complainant, together with her one friend, to his sister’s RDP house. He then raped the complainant in the presence of the other child. Thereafter he gave the two children money to go and buy him cigarettes. Upon their return, he then gave them the change from the money and told them not to tell anyone about what had happened,” said Ramatseba.

He said the child informed her grandmother when she returned home.

“When the complainant arrived home, she told her grandmother about the incident. The police were notified and the accused was immediately arrested.”

Ramatseba said the investigating officer (IO), as well as the prosecutors who handled the case, was applauded for the sterling work done on the case.

“The provincial head of the Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences unit, Brigadier Nicky Mills, commended the investigating officer, Sergeant Reginald Kwenamore, for his outstanding investigation. The John Taolo Gaetsewe cluster commander, Major-General Johan Bean, applauded the Department of Justice, the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) and the Department of Social Development for working closely with the IO in ensuring that justice is served,” said Ramatseba.
