A convicted murderer Simon Ndwalaza, 40 was sentenced to 18 years direct imprisonment for the brutal killing of a male Lesotho national at the Craven Street taxi rank in Kimberley on April 27.
SAPS Northern Cape provincial spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Sergio Kock said the deceased Motlatsi Daniel Shata, 34, was stabbed multiple times in the chest.
“The deceased and a taxi assistant were involved in an altercation. Shata died on the scene, and the accused was immediately arrested by the police.”
She added that Ndwalaza remained in custody until his sentencing in the Kimberley magistrates’ court after the state opposed him being released on bail.
SAPS Northern Cape provincial commissioner Lieutenant General Koliswa Otola,commended the investigating officer Detective Sergeant Kelaegile Mosala of the Kimberley SAPS Serious and Violent Crimes unit for her meticulous investigation that led to the outstanding sentence.
She reiterated that contact crimes remained a priority crime that would be policed vigorously.
