‘We are hurt!’ Makhadzi postpones release of new track in honour of Solly Moholo as heartfelt tributes pour in for gospel icon

The music community is reeling from the great loss of gospel singer Solly Moholo, who was well known for his energetic performance following his untimely death after a battle with stroke.

SOCIAL media is flooding with messages of condolences as industry mates, fans and followers pay tribute to the late gospel singer Solly Moholo, known for his hits like ‘Moruti Nthapelele,’ who died after battling with a stroke.

This comes after the family of the veteran singer took to social media to announce his death.

“Dear Solly Moholo Fans, it is with great sadness that we are informing you on behalf of the Molokoane family, that is Solly Moholo’s family, that our beloved legend “Solly Moholo” has sadly passed on,” reads the statement.

“He passed on October 2, whilst in hospital. Solly Moholo was hospitalised after falling ill following his pre album launch tour in Botswana.”

The family has asked for privacy as they mourn the passing of the veteran gospel artist.

The gospel sensation was hospitalised in August after collapsing on stage during his album tour in Botswana, where he was promoting his highly anticipated upcoming album, “Wubani O zo Pepeza”.

While rocking the stage with his energetic performances, Moholo was hit by a stroke. He was then transferred to a South African hospital, where he was currently in ICU.

Moholo suffered a stroke and multiple organ failure, and that needed an urgent brain surgery.

This led to the family of Moholo seeking financial assistance of about R700,000 from the public to cover the artist’s medical bills.

Hailing from north of Pretoria, in Soshanguve, Solly Moholo, born Solomon Molokoane was a beloved gospel singer, cherished by audiences of all ages for his soothing vocals.

Moholo, was also known for his energetic performances, while donning his signature ZCC regalia, captivating fans with his stellar performances which included energetic jumps on the stage.

From performing at festivals, concerts, funerals, unveiling tombstones and to recently at pubs and taverns, this is what earned him a huge following.

Some of his popular songs were, ‘Moruti Nthapelele,’ ’Ka Letsatsi La Bofelo,’ ‘Ke Latlhile Bokinza,’ ‘Mokobetsi’ and others.

Taking to social media to express her sympathies to the late icon, was gospel sensation Winnie Mashaba, who expressed her gratitude for his guidance on her music career.

“I was very young and clueless about the music industry. My mom handed me over to Malome Solly Moholo, he trained me and guided me throughout.”

“It’s so painful to say Rest In Peace Malome Solly 💔💔💔💔😭😭😭 Until we meet again on the other side of the world,” said Mashaba, in a heartfelt post on X.

After learning of the death of the gospel icon, Limpopo born musician, Makhadzi, real name Ndivhudzannyi Ralivhona, said that she had to postpone the premiere of her new track titled ‘Nnana’ to honour the legend.

“Apologies khadzinators, as a person who respects elders and a fan of our Legend MR SOLLY MOHOLO. we are moving the premiere of nnana (phophi) to tomorrow morning… 7am. Due to sad news we faced now in SA ..🕊️,” she wrote on Facebook.

She wrote in a separate post: “Rest in peace our Legend. Aowaa SOLLY, we are hurt💔🕊️🕊️🕊️”

Rapper, Emtee, also took to Instagram to express his condolences to the beloved gospel singer.

“RIP NTATE. WE’LL SING YOUR SONGS FOREVER. ROBALA KA KGOTSO🕊️.”

Music Producer, @Djkarri_ wrote: “RIP Bra Solly Moholo 💔 thank you for everything 🙏.”

“Rest In Peace Ntate Solly Moholo.. May your song be a reality upon your death.. 🕊️🌹🥀,” wrote @BushyBrows6.

Details of the nationally acclaimed and loved gospel musician’s memorial and funeral will be shared in the coming days on all Solly Moholo’s official pages.
