TYLER Perry is once again putting women in the spotlight with his new series “Beauty in Black”, which will serve up plenty of drama.
The 16-episode show is set for two-part release on Netflix, with part one dropping on October 24. It is created, directed and executive produced by the renowned American filmmaker and actor.
The drama stars Taylor Polidore Williams, who also previously featured in Perry’s “Divorce in the Black”, which debuted on Amazon Prime Video in July. It was led by the likes of Meagan Good, Cory Hardrict and Richard Lawson.
The actress, who also featured on “Snowfall”, will be joined by Crystle Stewart who also starred in the entertainment mogul’s “Acrimony” alongside Taraji P Henson.
The rest of the cast includes fellow “Divorce in the Black’s” stars Debbi Morgan, Richard Lawson, Shannon Wallace, Ursula O Robinson, Xavier Smalls, who starred in Perry’s “Madea’s Destination Wedding”, and Terrell Carter, who featured in several of the filmmaker’s other movies.
Amber Reign Smith, Steven G Norfleet, Julian Horton, Bryan Tanaka, Joy Rovaris, Charles Malik Whitfield, Charles Malik Whitfield, Tamera “Tee” Kissen and Ashley Versher make up the rest of the cast.
“Beauty in Black” follows two women, Kimmie (Williams) and Mallory (Stewart), who, despite leading very different lives, are about to have their worlds intertwined.
Kimmie is struggling to make ends meet after her mother kicks her out while Mallory has become a successful entrepreneur.
“Beauty in Black” is part of Perry’s creative partnership with Netflix, which has seen him write, direct and produce films and series under a multi-year first-look deal. This includes “Mea Culpa”, which starred Kelly Rowland and premiered in February.
Perry’s previous films on the streaming platform include “A Jazzman’s Blues”, a movie about forbidden love that made its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival.
Others include “A Madea Homecoming”, the 12th instalment of the billion-dollar Madea franchise, and “A Fall from Grace”.
