It’s obvious that Makhadzi got her album cover concept from Rihanna’s ‘Unapologetic’ cover, which was released in 2012

SOUTH African musician Makhadzi has announced the launch of her seventh studio album, “Miracle Child”, expected to drop on Friday, September 6.

The Venda beauty shared the artwork of her album on social media. People couldn’t help but notice that it looked like Rihanna’s 2012 “Unapologetic” album cover.

Everything is so similar, including the hairstyles, font, colours and that both artists are bare-chested.

Some of her fans are disappointed about the lack of creativity.

“Lmao, she didn’t even try. What if the other lady sues?” said one of her fans, @tseepati.

What’s iconic about Makhadzi’s cover is that it speaks about her life experiences, including miscarriage, winning the BET award, her “One Woman Show” and owing the South African Revenue Service, among other things.

However, she is not the first South African artist to copy for Americans. In 2009, when L’vovo Derango released “The Heavyweight” album, he copied the cover from Jay Z’s “American Gangster”, derived from the “American Gangster” film.

In 2020, Babes Wodumo also released an album, “Indodakazi,” and the cover was similar to Summer Walker’s “Over It” artwork. However, Babes didn’t make it too obvious because hers was animated and she didn’t have a telephone and durag like Walker did.
