AS THE Hollard Daredevil Run 2024 approaches, anticipation is building across the country. This year marks the 15th anniversary of the event, and thousands of men are preparing to make a powerful statement in support of prostate and testicular cancer awareness.
The run will take place on Friday, November 1, 2024. In Johannesburg, participants will gather at Zoo Lake for a 5km run starting at 3pm, while others across South Africa can take part by running in their own communities, either solo or in groups. For those looking to join groups or organise their own, the Daredevil Run's Facebook page provides a platform for co-ordination and participation.
At its core, the Hollard Daredevil Run aims to foster a culture of openness among men regarding their health - particularly concerning male cancers. By participating, men are encouraged to talk more openly about the risks, symptoms, and critical importance of early detection of both prostate and testicular cancer.
One past participant shared a life-saving experience, saying, "You saved my life. I had a PSA test at the Hollard Daredevil Run, and they picked up that I had signs of early prostate cancer. I'd never have known if it hadn't been for the run.” This highlights the importance of the event, where the Cancer Association of South Africa (Cansa) will once again offer free PSA tests at Zoo Lake on the day of the run.
Supporting the Hollard Daredevil Run also means supporting broader access to cancer education and testing, particularly in underprivileged communities. Every entry helps fund these crucial efforts, spreading the message that early detection can save lives.
Hollard invites everyone - from individuals to corporations, schools, and sports clubs - to get involved and rally behind this vital cause. Registration costs R180. If you sign up before October 28 via Ticketpro, your race pack, along with the iconic purple speedo, will be couriered directly to you. For those in Johannesburg, you can still register at Zoo Lake until 2.30pm on the day of the event.
This November, take a bold step for men’s health. Let’s run together and continue the fight against cancer.
