Gift of the Givers provides flood relief in ZF Mgcawu District

GIFT of the Givers provided humanitarian aid to communities in the ZFM Mgcawu District that were affected by recent floods.

Torrential rain caused extensive damage to the road network and several roads were closed last week. 

Gift of the Givers project manager Ali Sablay said the disaster had severely affected Kai !Garib and Dawid Kruiper local municipalities, where damage was caused to homes and families were left homeless.

"In response to the deep sense of loss and hardship, Gift of the Givers co-ordinated a flood relief programme to distribute food parcels, bottled water, bottled soda water, blankets and clothing packs.  Many families were left destitute and the immediate provision of food, water, blankets and clothing offered them a sense of relief and dignity," said Sablay.

He added that the ZFM Mgcawu District municipal council expressed heartfelt thanks for the kindness and immediate response shown by Gift of the Givers and the ongoing efforts of the organisation to bring support in such hard times.

"Community leaders and local government officials also showed their appreciation, acknowledging the crucial role that Gift of the Givers played in easing some of the suffering and giving those who were affected by this flood new hope. 

“The flood disaster in the ZF Mgcawu District highlighted the vulnerability of the affected communities to natural disasters," Sablay noted.
