A QUICK-thinking police team in Richmond swooped in on four suspects following a dramatic housebreaking incident that escalated into a struggle with the homeowners.
According to Northern Cape police spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Sergio Kock, the break-in occurred on February 18, while the residents were at home. Two intruders forced their way inside, resulting in a “scuffle” with the residents. They grabbed meat and clothing before making a hasty escape.
Acting on intelligence, Richmond SAPS officers tracked down the stolen items, which had been stashed in a local house. Two men were arrested on the spot for possession of suspected stolen stock.
The investigation didn’t stop there - the police continued their search and soon apprehended the two original suspects, charging them with housebreaking and theft.
The four suspects, aged between 22 and 35, are expected to appear in court soon.
The Richmond SAPS officers received praise from the provincial police management for their swift action, while community members were also commended for their role in providing valuable information.
The police have urged the public to remain vigilant and report crime through the MySAPS app or by calling 08600 10111.
