A HEATED argument that turned deadly has ended in a lengthy prison sentence for a Roodepan man, as the Kimberley Regional Court handed down a 14-year sentence to 24-year-old Jody Mckuur for the murder of Eugene Bronston Daniels, 29.
The fatal incident occurred on May 23, 2024, when a dispute involving two cousins, Mckuur and his co-accused, 27-year-old Evahn Peters, and the victim escalated into violence.
According to police spokesperson Sergeant Timothy Sam, the altercation led to Mckuur fatally stabbing Daniels during the confrontation.
Both men were convicted in connection with the crime. Mckuur received a sentence of 14 years and 9 months behind bars for murder, while Peters was sentenced to three years for assault common, with the option of a R600 fine, wholly suspended for five years.
In addition to their sentences, both men were declared unfit to own firearms.
The Northern Cape SAPS provincial management and Frances Baard district management welcomed the sentence and commended Detective Sergeant Mojalefa Setlai for his thorough investigation, which helped secure the convictions.
Sergeant Sam urged members of the public to report criminal activities anonymously via the MySAPS app or by calling 08600 10111.
