The Kimberley Harriers Running Club will be hosting their Valentine’s Day four-kilometre Fun Run/Walk on Tuesday, February 11, in support of the Kimberley SPCA.
THE LOVE for running is one thing, but running for love is something truly special.
So, local runners, get ready to lace up your running shoes and spread the love this February when the Kimberley Harriers Running Club hosts their Valentine’s Day four-kilometre Fun Run/Walk on Tuesday, February 11, in support of the Kimberley SPCA.
This family-friendly event is an excellent opportunity for the community – not only runners – to come together, get active, and make a meaningful contribution to a truly worthy cause.
The event kicks off at 5.30pm at Diamantveld High School in the city, and organisers are hoping for a good turnout.
Participants of all ages and fitness levels are welcome to join the fun, whether they prefer to run or take a leisurely walk. To add to the Valentine’s Day spirit, attendees are encouraged to dress in red, pink, or white and to bring along their big hearts for the animals.
These types of events are vitally important because the Kimberley SPCA works tirelessly to care for and protect vulnerable animals in the community. To this end, this fun run aims to raise much-needed funds and collect donations to support their efforts.
Participants are, therefore, encouraged to bring along donations of dog food, cat food, or cash. Every contribution, no matter how small, will make a big difference.
Ultimately, this event is not just about running or walking; it’s about coming together as a community to show love and compassion for animals in need. And what potential participants may not even realise about this altruistic act is that it has a surprising, hidden benefit.
Author Karen Salmansohn writes: “Altruism raises your mood because it raises your self-esteem, which increases happiness. Plus, giving to others gets you outside of yourself and distracts you from your problems.”
Fun and peace of mind, what a bonus! So Kimberlites, take this opportunity to enjoy some fresh air, make memories with loved ones, and even meet new friends who share a passion for fitness and philanthropy.
No pre-registration is required. Simply show up on the day, bring your donations, and join in the fun. Don’t forget to wear your most vibrant Valentine’s Day colours and comfortable running or walking gear. And above all, have fun!
