Diamantveld High School’s Under-15 and Under-19 cricket teams recently returned from an impressive sporting weekend in Benoni, Gauteng, where they each played two matches against Hans Moore and Marais Viljoen schools.
Diamantveld High School’s Under-15 and Under-19 cricket teams recently returned from an impressive sporting weekend in Benoni, Gauteng, where they each played two matches against Hans Moore and Marais Viljoen schools.
The team made a point of expressing their appreciation to Mitsubishi Motors Kimberley for safely transporting the team to and from their destination.
The results of the games are as follows:
Diamantveld Under-15A vs Hans Moore Under-15A: Diamantveld batted first, scoring 199 runs in their allotted 20 overs. Star performances came from Ruben Viljoen, who scored a stunning 90 runs off 58 balls, and Neil Steynberg, who added 66 runs from 32 balls. On the bowling front, Ruben Viljoen, Fourie Smit, and Ewin Maree each took two wickets, leading Diamantveld to a comfortable victory by 70 runs.
Diamantveld Under-15A vs Marais Viljoen Under-15A: Diamantveld bowled first and restricted Marais Viljoen to 218 runs in 38.3 overs. Luke Joseph was outstanding with the ball, taking three wickets. However, Diamantveld struggled in their batting response, losing the match by 35 runs despite strong contributions from Neil Steynberg (44 off 23 balls) and Rulo van der Merwe (43 off 55 balls).
Diamantveld Under-19A vs Hans Moore Under-19A: Diamantveld batted first, scoring 126/9 in their 20 overs. De Wet Fourie stood out with the bat, scoring 32 runs off 44 balls. The team performed well with the ball, with Arno Mostert and Hanru Rademeyer both taking three wickets each, but Hans Moore managed to chase the target, winning by 2 wickets.
Diamantveld Under-19A vs Marais Viljoen Under-19: Diamantveld delivered a dominant performance, scoring 290 runs in their allotted 50 overs. Hanru Rademeyer (68 off 41 balls), Benjamin Potgieter (56 off 77 balls), and Arno Mostert (54 off 64 balls) led the charge with the bat.
Nathan Baird’s superb bowling display, taking three wickets, ensured Diamantveld secured a commanding victory by 181 runs.
It was a weekend of mixed results, but the talent and teamwork of Diamantveld’s cricketers shone through in every game.
