In the recent Nedbank Cup 2024/25 last group stage knockout match-ups, regional teams competed fiercely for a chance to advance to the next round, providing their supporters and soccer fans with plenty of thrilling football action.

From intense matches that had to be decided by penalty shootouts to commanding wins, the games were brimming with action. And now, as the competition advances, the stakes will increase, with every team putting in maximum effort to move on to the next phase.

Here is a summary of some of the most notable games from this week.

In Kakamas, Kakamas United triumphed over Juventus FC 2-0 in a thrilling match thanks to enthusiastic support from the home crowd at the Langverwacht Stadium. Although Juventus has been performing well against other teams, scoring six goals in their last two matches, they were unable to take advantage of their opportunities in this game.

United’s strong defensive performance led to back-to-back shutouts, guaranteeing their advancement to the next round as champions of Stream A.

Meanwhile, Postmasburg Football Club’s participation in the Nedbank Cup came to an end following a challenging match against Maroding G-Stasie FC in a match played at the Lime Acres Numsun.

Maroding scored in the 5th minute, but Postmasburg quickly equalised. The result being that after regular time the result was locked in a 1-1 tie, the match proceeded to a penalty shootout, which saw Maroding triumph and advance in the competition.

In a another exciting match, Kimberley Saints FC emerged victorious with a commanding 5-0 win over Rovers FC at the De Beers Stadium in Kimberley. Even though Rovers showed intent and skill during the game, they failed to score a goal throughout the entire 90-minutes.

However, at the other end of the park, Saints’ defence remained solid, while their offence was just too powerful, ensuring that they remained in the competition.

Now, as Kakamas United, Maroding G-Stasie FC, and Kimberley Saints FC progress, the competition in the Nedbank Cup is intensifying as the knockout stage nears.
