THE MULTI-disciplinary Operation Vala Umgodi team, comprising members of the SA Police Service (SAPS) and the SA National Defence Force (SANDF), conducted disruptive operations in the Kenilworth informal settlement in Kimberley.

During the operation on September 19, the team observed a group of people gathered at a local residence. Upon investigation, it was revealed that the homeowner, a 53-year-old foreign national, was operating an illegal shebeen. Authorities confiscated the alcohol and issued a fine to the owner.

In addition, five men, aged between 28 and 55, were arrested during the raid for contravening the Immigration Act. The men are believed to be residing in the country illegally and were handed over to immigration officials for further processing.

Police spokesperson Merapelo Pilane said that the Operation Vala Umgodi team will persist in their efforts to tackle priority crimes within the Frances Baard District.
